First finished painting in my new studio space! 🎨

“Ymir Suckling the Cow Audhumla” by Danish painter Nicolai Abildgaard, was created between 1775 and 1778. It depicts the mythological Norse scene where the primeval giant Ymir drinks milk from the cow Audhumla. This copy is made in the exact size of the original oil painting held @smkmuseum measuring 37cm by 45,5cm 🐄

Be honest, if you saw someone suckling on a cows teat - would you not think that was bizarre behaviour? 🐄

WIP of possibly the very first painting that I’ve made for myself, because I want it as an image in my home. To replace a printed out copy of this same composition on our fridge. Reminding us, every day, how just because a behaviour has been normalised in society - it does not mean that it’s actually okay to engage in. I would never think of putting another mammals mammary glands into my mouth to suckle on their milk that they produce for their own child. I wouldn’t do that with another humans breast, as a grown adult who doesn’t need milk for survival as I have been successfully weaned! Nor will I ever pay someone else to rape that animal, and have their child taken away from them, so that I can consume their breast excretions. 🥛🤢🤮

Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do. 🕊️

Thank you to @kustibaneons for a fantastic exhibition titled FREEDOM, which was on view @kanepeskc until just this Tuesday! 🌈

Less than a week before the opening of this exhibition, Saeima - the parliament of the Republic of Latvia - decided to forward for further consideration a proposal by the opposition party “Latvia First” (LPV) to prohibit minors from participating in events “that promote LGBTQIA+ ideas and values”. Values such as freedom, human rights, tolerance, inclusivity, and love. 🏳️‍🌈

Today, members of the opposition Saeima factions of the National Alliance, the United List and Latvia First together with members of the Greens and Farmers’ Union (ZZS) faction - which is part of the government coalition - submitted a draft request to the Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee on Latvia’s withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention. Convention on the Prevention and Suppression of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. ☠️

Feminism is a dirty word that many in Latvia laugh out loud at. Human rights are not meant for everyone here. I live here now, in the same world as You do. And I will continue to be the change that I want to see in the world. To dress and adorn myself in colours, that bewilder the frightened masses here. To carry around my rainbow merch - bottles, bags, accessories - with pride, and in defiance to public threats from passers by. To make art that is political, and continues to tour the world offering anyone who comes across it another possibility - to thrive and not merely exist - a different perspective. 🖼️

Voting for any politician involved with the parties mentioned above, that are on the wrong side of history, is voting against me and my friends and my community. It’s a hate crime. You hate us if you do not support us. ✌️
