Invitation – Places we love.

Dear friends, I have a special invitation for you all! My work has been once again included in this year’s annual Artlink Members exhibition. Held at the VSG – a virtual replica of the Saldanha Gallery, an online experience of the space where the members show has been hosted since its inception in 2015. This is the official exhibition press release by Artlink:

In considering a suitable theme that reflected the issues of current times, Artlink turned to poetry and to Ivan V. Lalic – a Yugosalvian poet who knew much about change and place. Members where asked to contemplate the poem ‘Places We Love’ when selecting suitable artworks for this exhibition.
A total of forty five artists from Donegal and beyond were inspired by the theme and will be exhibiting in this year’s show. Artworks include painting, drawing, printmaking, moving image, photography, collage and performance. Artlink has been able to build rooms online to accommodate the additional interest in exhibiting and the space is open 24/7. A live online launch will be hosted on on Monday 3rd August at 7pm which can be viewed thereafter on the Artlink website.

Places We Love by Ivan V. Lalic –

Places we love exist only through us,

Space destroyed is only illusion in the constancy of time,

Places we love we can never leave,

Places we love together, together, together,

And is this room really a room, or an embrace,

And what is beneath the window: a street or years?

And the window is only the imprint left by

The first rain we understood, returning endlessly,

And this wall does not define the room, but perhaps the night

Your son began to move in your sleeping blood,

A son like a butterfly of flame in your hall of mirrors,

The night you were frightened by your own light,

And this door leads into any afternoon

Which outlives it, forever peopled

With your casual movements, as you stepped,

Like fire into copper, into my only memory;

When you go, space closes over like water behind you,

Do not look back: there is nothing outside you,

Space is only time visible in a different way,

Places we love we can never leave.

PS – I apologise that I didn’t get this published sooner, as I only received this invite very recently myself and priority was to share it across my other social media for publicity. I promise however that you will certainly be the first ones to know about my other upcoming exhibitions as they are being organised well in advance. I look forward to them all, especially as they will be taking place irl finally!
